In the United States (US), biogas technology provider Ductor Americas, Inc. (Ductor) and Weaver Bros. Inc., trading as Weaver Eggs (Weaver) have announced a major milestone in the development of a groundbreaking renewable energy and organic fertilizer project in Darke County, Ohio. The project has received its permit to Install and Operate, issued by the Ohio Department of Agriculture, allowing the partners to proceed into the execution and financing phase.
This flagship facility, located on-site at Weaver Brothers’ egg production operations, will transform poultry manure into clean energy and sustainable agricultural products using Ductor’s proprietary, proven nutrient recovery process.
The Darke Project sets a new benchmark for poultry manure processing in North America—scaling circular bioeconomy principles into a replicable infrastructure model by transforming poultry manure into three high-value products:
- Renewable natural gas (RNG) – to be injected into the regional gas grid, with a low carbon intensity score (-100 CI in ISCC), eligible for the US 45Z production tax credit.
- Certified organic liquid ammonia fertilizer – approved in California and Washington, supporting organic agriculture across the United States
- Solid fertilizer – high-value soil enhancer distributed to local agricultural markets.
With the permit secured, Ductor and Weaver Eggs will move into final engineering, procurement, and financing, with construction expected to begin in the first half of 2026, and RNG production is targeted for Q4 2027.
Weaver Brothers is deeply committed to sustainable agriculture and long-term environmental responsibility. Our collaboration with Ductor allows us to convert a challenging waste stream into renewable energy and valuable fertilizer products—strengthening our biosecurity and contributing to local circular economy goals, said Alex Weaver, President of Weaver Brothers.
A scalable model for sustainable infrastructure
The Darke Project is designed as the first of up to 15 Ductor plants across the United States, each replicating the company’s standardized model, backed by long-term feedstock agreements, secured offtake, and replicable technology.
The platform aims to raise over US$1.5 billion in total investment by 2032.
This project is not just a milestone for Ductor—it’s a blueprint for the future of poultry manure management and nutrient recovery in the U.S. agriculture and energy sectors. The Darke Project brings our IP-protected, commercially proven process to an industrial scale in Ohio, turning organic waste into clean energy and organically certified fertilizer. We are proud to partner with Weaver Brothers to set a new standard for environmental stewardship, energy independence, and sustainable farming, said Bernard Fenner, CEO of Ductor.
