Elyse Energy and ATOBA Energy partner to boost SAF
Sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) are required by the ReFuelEU Aviation regulation, starting with a 2 percent quota in 2025 and aiming for 70 percent SAF in all EU airports by 2050.

Elyse Energy SAS, a pioneering French industrial SME specializing in the production of sustainable fuels and low-carbon raw materials, and compatriot ATOBA Energy, a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) aggregator committed to solving the SAF financial dilemma between airlines and producers, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate the production of SAF in France.

This strategic partnership addresses a critical challenge: overcoming the economic barriers hindering the growth of SAF in the aviation sector.

A key milestone of this collaboration will be a joint feasibility study scheduled for the second quarter of 2025.

The study aims to evaluate and structure Elyse Energy’s SAF production by analyzing economic factors, volume objectives, and pricing strategies to best serve the emerging SAF market.

We are proud to launch this collaboration with Elyse Energy, a leading innovator in second-generation SAF technology and production. Their BioTfueL process, which integrates biomass conversion (torrefaction, gasification, syngas treatment, and Fischer-Tropsch synthesis) with external hydrogen injection, is a key advancement in enhancing low-carbon fuel yields. We see Elyse Energy having strong potential in our offtake project portfolio, emphasized Arnaud Namer, Co-Founder and CEO of ATOBA Energy.

The  Elyse Energy – ATOBA Energy partnership marks a significant step toward a more resilient and competitive SAF ecosystem, reinforcing the commitment of both companies to a sustainable and decarbonized future for aviation.

One of the most crucial challenges in scaling the nascent bioSAF and eSAF industry is the ability to obtain stable and bankable long-term offtake contracts that enable projects to reach a Final Investment Decision. The key advantage provided by ATOBA is that they offer this guarantee while significantly reducing risks and commitments for airline clients. We are excited about our opportunity of this partnership, said Jérémie Bertrand, Director of SAF and Methanol Project Development at Elyse Energy.
