The European Renewable Ethanol Association (ePURE) has named Emmanuel Desplechin as its new Secretary General effective immediately, replacing Robert Wright. Desplechin, who joined ePURE in 2013, had previously been the association’s Director for Government Affairs.

Desplechin has a long career in the ethanol sector. Prior to joining ePURE, he held public affairs positions with the Danish biotech company Novozymes, and UNICA, the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association and has been Secretary General of the Industrial Ethanol Association.

– This is a crucial moment for our industry as the EU considers its renewable energy mix for the coming decades.I’ll continue to work with policymakers to make sure they understand how renewable European ethanol is driving the decarbonisation of EU transportation – as well as the benefits it brings to the environment, the agricultural economy, and food security, said Desplechin in a statement.

Based in Brussels, Belgium, ePURE represents European ethanol producers. Its members accounted for 85 percent of the installed ethanol capacity in Europe 2015.
