Everbright International completes phase II of Nanjing waste-to-energy project ahead of schedule

China Everbright International Ltd (Everbright International) has announced that the Group has completed construction and commenced commercial operations of phase II of the Nanjing Waste-to-Energy (WtE) project in Jiangsu Province, China three months ahead of schedule.

Hong Kong-based China Everbright International Ltd (Everbright International) has announced that the Group’s Nanjing Waste-to-Energy Project (Nanjing Project) Phase II in Jiangsu Province has completed construction three months ahead of schedule and commenced commercial operation. Nanjing Project Phase I has a designed daily household waste processing capacity of 2 000 tonnes and commenced operation in mid-2014.

Largest WtE project for Everbright

Nanjing Project Phase II is designed with a daily household waste processing capacity of 2 000 tonnes, with a total investment of approximately RMB980 million (≈ US$142.3 million). The construction of the Project Phase II took place over the course of 15 months.

The operation commencement of the Project Phase II makes the Nanjing Project the largest waste-to-energy project in operation at Everbright International so far, with a total designed daily household waste processing capacity of 4 000 tonnes and the capacity of treating up to 5 000 tonnes of household waste per day in the city.

Nanjing Project Phase II is equipped with three self-developed 750 tonne-per-day grate furnaces and two 25 MWe turbine power generators, with supporting equipment. Gas emissions fully comply with the Euro 2010 Standard and the water produced from the leachate treatment complies with the Grade 1A standard of the Integrated Wastewater Discharge Standard.

– With the launch of the 13th Five-Year Plan for the Harmless Treatment of Household Waste in Nanjing, existing waste landfills in the city have fully suspended operation, and the city is transitioning towards a model of safe treatment, reduction, and reuse of household waste. Everbright International’s Nanjing Project is an important livelihood initiative in Jiangsu Province and Nanjing. The completion and operation of the Project Phase II, which incorporates Everbright International’s self-developed equipment that is specifically adapted to handle household waste in China, will allow the Nanjing Project to operate efficiently and smoothly in compliance with discharge standards. This will help to create a more pleasant and habitable living environment for the residents in Jiangnan and Lishui Districts of Nanjing, said Chen Xiaoping, CEO of Everbright International in a statement.

Other WtE projects under construction

Chen Xiaoping also gave updates on other WtE projects that the Group currently is working on.

– Our Zouping Waste-to-Energy Project and Fei County Waste-to-Energy Project in Shandong Province both started construction recently and are expected to complete construction and commence operations in 2018. As always, we will strive for excellence and be pragmatic. We will proactively tackle all the difficulties that arise during the construction process, ensuring the stability and safety of project construction. By building high quality and exemplary projects, the Group is committed to helping more regions achieve the safe treatment, reduction, and reuse of waste, Xiaoping said.
