Commercial operations of the first biomass-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plant have begun in Kaunas, Lithuania's second city. The project was implemented by Danpower Baltic UAB – a joint venture between GECO Investicijos and Germany-based Danpower GmbH, a subsidiary of Enercity – and constructed by Axis Technologies, a subsidiary of Lithuania-headed Axis Group.

The CHP plant, which generates 20 MW of heat power and 5 MW of electrical power, cost almost EUR 20 million. It was supplied by Axis Technologies on a turnkey basis completing all of the power plant’s construction tasks from start to finish as well as providing the equipment for the project.
Usually, the construction of similarly powerful power plants takes 26-30 months. However, this power plant had to be built in less than 21 months. Our team’s experience helped them overcome this challenge. We’re glad to have implemented another biofuel energy project that will contribute to serving the city with ecological heat, said Giedrius Vaitkevičius, CEO, Axis Technologies.
