According to a statement, the upgrading system will be supplied to an existing farm-based biogas plant located in village ‘Vila-Sana’ in Catalonia. The biogas produced at the ‘Porgaporcs’ pig farm will be fed through a Bright Biomethane system to produce biomethane of the sufficient quality to be compressed and used as a vehicle fuel for an EU co-funded demonstration project. The biogas upgrading installation will have a capacity of 200 Nm3 per hour.

In the future, after the project end in 2019, the biomethane is likely to be injected into the national gas grid. The project is led by Gas Natural Fenosa (GNF) as part of their participation in the project LIFE+ Metha Morphosis, a European financed project with the objective to recover energy from organic solid waste from both municipal and agro-industrial and farming sources to obtain alternative and sustainable fuels.
