Granules becomes first SBP certified pellet producer in Quebec

In Canada, Granules LG, a Quebec-based wood pellet producer has become the first in the Province to obtain a certification from the Sustainable Biomass Program (SBP), a sustainable sourcing certification designed for forest biomass, mainly for pellets, used in industrial energy production on a large scale.

The vision of the SBP is to be an economically, ecologically and socially sustainable supply chain that contributes to a low-carbon economy. This certification therefore guarantees that the forest biomass used for the production of pellets comes from legal and sustainable sources.

The Quebec Wood Export Bureau (QWEB), in collaboration with the Wood Pellet Association of Canada (WPAC) assisted Granules LG in obtaining the certification, which has now a prerequisite for the export of industrial pellets to international markets. The company currently has an annual production of around 110 000 tonnes.
