Melin, who holds an MSc in agriculture from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), is a well-known figure in the national and international bioenergy space having headed Svebio since 2008 and having served three terms as President of Bioenergy Europe, the European bioenergy association.

It is both pensive and exciting to leave Svebio. I have had many fantastic years when bioenergy has continuously grown and reached almost 40 percent of the total energy use and has become Sweden’s largest energy source. I am proud to have represented the Swedish bioenergy industry in Sweden and in the international arena. I am sure that the Swedish bioenergy industry and Svebio will continue to develop well in the coming years, said Gustav Melin in a statement.

Recruitment process in play

A process is now being initiated where the Svebio Board intends to recruit a new CEO who can develop and lead the organization so that it continues to be a powerful voice for the Swedish bioenergy industry that is growing in importance.

It is sad that Gustav is leaving his position as CEO of Svebio. At the same time, I fully understand that Gustav wants to use his experience and skills for new and exciting assignments. Gustav has for a long time been a very good representative of the entire bioenergy industry and I would like to personally and on behalf of the board and the members express our gratitude for his valuable efforts, said Alarik Sandrup, Chairman of the Board.

Remaining within the sector

For his part, Gustav Melin will very much stay within the Swedish bioenergy sector as he will be engaged as a senior adviser and shareholder in BK Tech Group AB, a privately-held industrial group with a focus on energy conversion from fossil fuels to fossil-free bioenergy.

We are delighted that Gustav will, as of August 1, 2023, be part of BKtech. Gustav is probably the person in the bioenergy industry with both the longest experience and the highest knowledge in several important areas that we will greatly benefit from in our continued growth journey, commented Jimmy Rylander, CEO of BK Tech Group.

During the autumn of 2022, BKtech embarked on its ambitious development by opening sales offices in Germany and France and has at the same time sold bioenergy projects in Denmark, Croatia as well as in Switzerland.

I look forward to engaging with BKtech to expand the company and increase the use of bioenergy in Europe and globally. BKtech has a range of competitive applications to replace natural gas, oil, and coal in industry and energy companies. I am convinced we can really make a change, said Gustav Melin.

The international expansion will continue during 2023, and Gustav Melin with his wide network of contacts and his knowledge of the international arena will be a great asset to BKtech.

That Gustav joins BKtech is proof that the work to modernize BKtech’s brand, together with the fact that we are clear about our ambitions, attracts people from different places in the industry. It is a statement of strength for BKtech and Gustav will be an important driver in the work going forward, ended Magnus Eklund, Head of Sales and Marketing, BK Tech Group.
