JFE Engineering hands over one of Japan’s largest biomass-fired CFB boiler plants

In Japan, JFE Engineering Corporation (JFEE) the engineering and construction arm of JFE Group has announced that it has completed construction of the biomass-fired Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) boiler power plant in Kushiro city, Hokkaido, and handed it over to the client Kushiro Power Station Co., Ltd.

The high-efficiency CFB boiler is supplied by Valmet Technologies Oy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Finland-headed forest industry and energy technology major Valmet Oyj and a partner of JFE Engineering. With a gross output of 112 MWe, it is one of the largest CFB boiler power plants using biomass fuel in Japan.

This marks the fourth power plant using Valmet’s CFB boiler in Japan that JFEE has handed over. According to JFEE, one of CFB’s features is its ability to handle a wide variety of fuel types, and it has an advantage in co-firing of multi-fuels.
