Japan-headed JFE Engineering Corporation, the engineering and construction arm JFE Group has announced that it has recently received an order for from Marubeni Corporation for an 8.6 MWe waste-to-energy (WtE) power plant. The plant is to be constructed in the Hemaraj Chonburi Industrial Estate in southeastern Thailand and will receive industrial wastes.

The project in this order is being planned by Chonburi Clean Energy (CCE), a joint venture of Suez Environment, WHA Utilities & Power and Glow Energy. The prime contractor is Marubeni, which has an extensive record of power plant construction in Thailand. JFE Engineering will be responsible for design and procurement of the main equipment and dispatch of supervisors at the time of installation and test operation.
The single stoker type unit will have a maximum capacity of 360 tonnes per day and is being built in the Bowin District of Sriracha City, Chonburi Province. The value of the order has not been disclosed.
The project is the first industrial waste WtE project in Southeast Asia for France-headed global water- and waste management company Suez Environment and is also why strict standards on a level equivalent to those in Europe are required regarding emission control values.
It is believed that JFE’s state-of-the-art technologies such as “Hyper Grate,” which realizes stable combustion of waste and the “2-way gas flow incinerator,” which suppresses dioxins and carbon monoxide in flue gas to low concentrations were key features leading to this order.
The Thai government is implementing regulations to curb illegal waste disposal and is also facilitating the introduction of renewable energy under a feed-in tariff (FIT) scheme. JFEE expects a further increase in demand for WtE power plants such as the CCE project in the Southeast Asia countries, beginning with Thailand.
