In Switzerland, waste-to-energy and renewable gas solutions provider Kanadevia Inova AG has announced that it has officially received the Provisional Acceptance Certificate (PAC) from compatriot waste-to-energy (WtE) operator kenova AG for its combustion and boiler system at the new KEBAG Enova Emmenspitz waste-to-energy plant in Zuchwil, Canton Solothurn.
According to a statement, the kenova project represents a state-of-the-art replacement for the existing Emmenspitz waste-to-energy facility, which has been in operation for over 40 years.
Once fully operational, the plant will process approximately 220,000 tonnes of source-separated municipal and commercial waste annually, converting it into thermal energy and providing a sustainable supply of electricity and district heating to the region.
Kanadevia Inova’s scope of supply includes two combustion lines featuring proprietary Inova-Grate technology and SNCR DeNOx systems. Each line has a throughput of 16.5 tonnes of waste per hour, generating up to 53.7 MW of thermal energy.
The downstream high-performance turbine produces enough electricity for around 42,000 households, while the district heating network supplies hot water and heating to approximately 20,000 households.
Additionally, the plant features the largest façade-mounted photovoltaic system in Switzerland, delivering additional solar-generated electricity.
The achievement of the PAC marks a significant milestone in the long-standing partnership between Kanadevia Inova and kenova, a collaboration that began in 1976 and has successfully evolved through multiple plant upgrades and expansions.
The new KEBAG Enova facility exemplifies modern, environmentally responsible waste management while ensuring long-term energy security for the region and serving the needs of approximately 520,000 residents.
