In Sweden, gypsum board manufacturer Knauf Danogips GmbH has announced that it is investing SEK 60 million (≈ EUR 5.13 million) in two new burners that will be fuelled by renewable biofuel at its facility in Åhus. The switch will mean a halving of carbon dioxide emissions from the production of gypsum board in Åhus.

Germany-headed Knauf Group manufactures gypsum products, lime, and cement products as well as thermal insulation materials.

With more than 300 production facilities and sales organizations in over 90 countries, 40,000 employees worldwide, and sales of EUR 13 billion (2022), Knauf Group is one of the major players in the global construction materials market.

In Sweden, Knauf Danogips has a gypsum board manufacturing plant in Åhus. The switch from fossil fuel to renewable biofuel at Åhus means that the company will more or less halve its consumption of fossil fuels used in the production of gypsum board.

The replacement project is already underway and is expected to be completed in Q4, 2024.

We have chosen to focus on areas that are particularly interesting to us and where we can make contributions through our operations. Going from fossil fuel to renewable biofuel in the production of our gypsum boards is a step towards our goal of reducing CO2 emissions by 50 percent in 2030 and in line with the Building and Construction Sector’s Roadmap to contribute to a climate-neutral value chain in the sector by 2045, said Åke Andersröd, Plant Manager at Knauf Danogips Åhus.
