Finland-headed combustion technology providers KPA Unicon Oy has announced that it has signed a contract with Swedavia AB for the delivery of an Unicon WT 30 MW heating plant to Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) in Sweden. The main fuel of the plant will be bio-oil, and the plant will also be prepared to use wood pellets in the future.
According to a statement, the heating plant will be put into operation in spring 2021 and will be used as a peak load and backup plant replacing the existing plant as part of the continuous development of the airport.

Based at Stockholm Arland Airport (ARN), Swedavia AB is a Swedish state-owned company responsible for the operation of a total of ten state-owned airports in Sweden.
We are pleased to supply already the second modern technology-based bio-oil heating plant to the Swedish market, where our boiler and burner are able to burn also pellet dust. Arlanda Airport is an important international transport hub, therefore its choices are a good example to follow, such as sustainable development solutions of this project. Our heating plant meets Swedavia’s requirements for high availability, high efficiency, and load change rate, as well as the highest environmental standards. Our solution replaces an old boiler with a new and more efficient plant, which is optimised according to the requirements for renewable fuels.
