Presented at an Awards Evening on November 13, 2019, as part of the Bioenergy STRONG conference, the jury recognises "the significant achievements of Licella and their global leadership as an Australian company."

Licella’s patented upgrading platform, the Catalytic Hydrothermal Reactor (or Cat-HTR), chemically transforms biomass wastes and residues to biocrude, able to be refined to biofuels and biochemicals.
Licella has developed the Cat-HTR technology over 12 years, with three scale-ups of its pilot plant on the New South Wales (NSW) Central Coast. Alongside their commercial partners, Canfor Pulp in Canada, Armstrong Energy in the UK and iQ Renew in Australia, they are building the world’s first commercial-scale hydrothermal upgrading plants.
We are pleased that awareness of hydrothermal upgrading as a solution for End-of-Life Plastic (non-recyclable plastic) and waste biomass is increasing. Licella is proud to be recognised as global technology pioneers of hydrothermal upgrading, our large pilot plant in Somersby NSW operating since 2008 and we were delighted to receive Bioenergy Australia’s Bioenergy International Award for our global leadership in the bioenergy industry, commented Len Humphreys, CEO, Licella Holdings.
Raising Australia’s bioenergy industry profile
According to Bioenergy Australia, the trade body representing the Australian bioenergy industry, the Bioenergy Innovation Awards provides a key vehicle for the promotion of the Australian bioenergy industry achievements and work in bioenergy both domestically and internationally.
Currently consisting of nine award categories, the primary focus for the awards program is to raise the profile of the industry with media, government, investors, energy providers, and users.
It also provides an opportunity for members of Bioenergy Australia to receive recognition for their projects, leadership, and innovations that support the ongoing development and growth of the industry in Australia.
