In Sweden, power-to-methanol project developer Liquid Wind AB has filed for bankruptcy at the Gothenburg District Court according to Montel News and Swedish media reports.
The bankruptcy filing in Gothenburg comes hot on the heels of the company submitting an environmental permit application for its planned eFuel Facility Övik (EFÖvik) at the Land and Environment Court in Umeå.
EFÖvik is a 100,000 tonnes-per–annum eMethanol plant, planned to be built and integrated with Övik Energi’s biomass-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Örnsköldsvik.
EFÖvik is, in essence, “FlagshipONE 2.0,” following Danish energy utility major Ørsted’s withdrawal from FlagshipONE in August 2024.
In addition to EFÖvik, Liquid Wind has a project in Sundsvall together with Sundvall Energi, FlagshipTWO, a 100,000 tonnes-per-annum eMethanol plant for which an environmental permit application has been submitted.
Also in Umeå, FlagshipTHREE, together with Umeå Energi, a 130,000-tonnes-per-annum eMethanol facility, which was granted an environmental permit in January 2025.
