Neste supplies SAF to Boeing to support its US Commercial Airplanes business operations
Boeing began sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) test flights in 2008, helped gain approval for commercial use in 2011, and enabled airplane delivery flights with SAF starting in 2012. The 2018 Boeing ecoDemonstrator conducted the industry's first 100 percent SAF commercial airplane test flight on a 777 Freighter in partnership with FedEx. In 2019, Boeing began offering customers the option to power commercial delivery flights with SAF (photo courtesy Boeing).

In the United States (US), global aerospace major Boeing has announced that it will purchase approximately 1.7 million (US) gallons (5 200 tonnes) of Neste's "MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel" (SAF) to power its US commercial operations through 2023. To be supplied by EPIC Fuels LLC, Signature Aviation Ltd, and Avfuel Corporation, these fuel purchases more than double Boeing's SAF procurement from last year.

Neste’s SAF will be blended with conventional jet fuel at a 30/70 ratio to produce 5.6 million (US) gallons (21.2 million liters) of blended SAF.

EPIC Fuels, Signature Aviation, and Avfuel will supply blended SAF for Boeing’s ecoDemonstrator program and the company’s fuel storage in Washington (WA) state and South Carolina (SC).

Additionally, EPIC Fuels and Signature Aviation will supply blended SAF for generating emissions reduction benefits for Boeing to allocate for company operations including Dreamlifter and executive flights, and commercial airplane deliveries.

As one of the top aircraft manufacturers in the world, Boeing is sending a clear message to the entire aviation industry through this purchase that SAF is a key solution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from flying. We are proud to be a part of this collaboration along with our partners EPIC Fuels, Signature Aviation, and Avfuel, said Michael Sargeant, VP of Americas, Renewable Aviation at Neste.

In 2021, Boeing committed to delivering its commercial airplanes capable and certified to fly on 100 percent SAF by 2030.
