Japan-headed shipping major Nippon Yusen Kabushiki (NYK Group) has announced that NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers Ltd, an NYK Group company, has taken delivery of a methanol dual-fuel bulk carrier chartered by the company.

On May 13, 2025, a methanol dual-fuel bulk carrier chartered by NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers from KAMBARA KISEN Co., Ltd was delivered at the TSUNEISHI shipyard of TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING Co., Ltd, and a naming and delivery ceremony was held.

At the ceremony, Yuko Tsutsui, Managing Executive Officer and Chief Executive of Sustainability & Transformation Headquarters of NYK Group, named the vessel “Green Future.”

This vessel is the first bulk carrier in the NYK Group to be equipped with a dual-fuel engine that uses methanol and fuel oil.

Methanol has a lower environmental impact than fuel oil. By using bio-methanol and e-methanol, the latter produced using hydrogen derived from renewable energy sources and recovered carbon dioxide (CO2), the vessel achieves significant reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
