Morrow Renewables LLC (formerly SouthTex Renewables) has partnered with Republic Services Inc. on a landfill gas to energy project at Blue Ridge Landfill outside Houston, Texas (TX). Blue Ridge Landfill TX, LP, a Republic Services company, is one of Republic’s 75 renewable energy projects across the nation, and one of 10 located in Texas (TX). In total, Republic’s landfill gas to energy projects generate enough renewable energy to fully power more than 250 000 homes annually.

The Blue Ridge Landfill has served business and residential customers throughout the Houston Metro since 1992. With 41 on-site employees, the landfill handles approximately 4 000 tonnes of waste per day, or more than 1 million tonnes annually.

Since 2016, the landfill has invested more than US$11 million in infrastructure upgrades and odor-control systems and has supported multiple community organizations.

Replacing an older renewable energy project at the site, the new facility is designed to collect landfill gas (LFG) generated at the site and upgrade it to renewable natural gas (RNG).

As a leader in our industry, we strive to do the right thing and be a good neighbor. With this innovative renewable energy facility right here in our community, we are using the latest technology to capture the byproduct of our solid waste and convert it into renewable energy that protects our local environment and provides a clean fuel source, said Rich Kang, Area President at Republic Services.

Morrow Renewables LLC – formerly SouthTex Renewables – which built and operates the landfill gas-to-energy facility at Blue Ridge Landfill, is a recognized leader among RNG developers. A Midland, Texas-based company, Morrow partners with Republic on three renewable energy projects in Texas.
