Samson to supply MBM feeder for biomass CHP project

Samson Materials Handling Ltd, a subsidiary of Netherlands-headed global material handling and storage technology providers Aumund Holding BV has announced that Aalborg Energie Technik a/s (AET) has placed a repeat order for a Samson Material Feeder for the reception of MBM at a biomass combined heat and power (CHP) plant currently under construction in Newark, UK.

According to a statement, Danish biomass boiler plant suppliers Aalborg Energie Technik a/s (AET) has placed an order with Samson Materials Handling for a Material Feeder for the reception of meat and bone meal (MBM) at a biomass combined heat and power (CHP) plant currently under construction in Newark, UK.

The unit will receive MBM direct from 28-tonne tipper trucks and 35-tonne front end loaders before conveying the material onto a screw conveyor for incineration. The feeder includes a 3m wide rubber belted apron design unit mounted on a steel structure and supported by double apron bars located at every pitch of the conveyor chain.

To accommodate a variety of trucks and loaders the universal entry point includes a 4.5m wide flared entry section thus increasing the volume of the feeder entry and reducing vehicle alignment time. Given the nature of the material, the equipment belt is oil and fat resistant and fasteners and belt cleats are produced in stainless steel to increase the longevity of the equipment.

The feeder unit is designed to receive material at a variable rate up to 600 m³ per hour and discharge material at a variable rate up to 180 m³ per hour. The hopper itself provides a holding capacity of 60 m³.

According to the company, by eliminating the need for deep pits and underground hoppers the material feeders are easily introduced into existing power plants and can be configured to suit a variety of material characteristics through varying belt widths, body and entry designs, material feeder construction and discharge interface. The order is the second biomass project in the UK with AET.
