In Sweden, SCA Wood, the solid wood products arm of forest industry major SCA has inaugurated a new planing mill at its Tunadal Sawmill. The SEK 80 million (≈ EUR 7.76 million) investment means increased productivity and better prerequisites for product development and innovations as well as feedstock for its wood pellet production.

According to SCA, the new planing mill comes with a lot of benefits. With new raw material intake, new splitting line and new packaging line, productivity at the mill is doubled and with the new technology, the pace of the product development and innovations also increases.
Up to now, cladding, studs, and roof panels all made of spruce from northern Sweden were the main products produced at Tunadal planning mill. With the new investment, cladding will be one of the main products.
With this investment we can meet our customers needs and offer them more competitive products, says Joakim Nehrer, Sales- and marketing director Scandinavia at SCA Wood.
The milestone is important for both Tunadal’s and SCA’s development. The previous band saw has been replaced with a split saw which creates a more homogeneous surface. This surface contributes to a decrease in the amount of paint used in the cladding paint line.
