SCHWENK opens carbon capture test base in Latvia
The significance of the carbon capture test base at the Brocēni cement plant was underscored by the high-level participation in the opening event on August 29, 2025, which included the Prime Minister of Latvia, Evika Siliņa (centre), other government representatives, and the German Embassy in Riga (photo courtesy SCHWENK Zement).

Germany-headed building materials group SCHWENK Zement GmbH & Co. KG has held the official opening of a carbon capture test base at its Brocēni cement plant in Latvia.

At the Brocēni cement plant, two carbon capture technologies are being tested under real operating conditions – the “CapsolGo” from Norway’s Capsol Technologies ASA, and a novel point-source solution from Canada’s Svante Technologies Inc.

According to SCHWENK, “this deliberate mix of technologies allows us to compare different approaches and identify the best solutions for our sites – including those in Germany.”
