The project is being developed by Shimonoseki Biomass Energy GK, a company jointly established by the three Kyushu Electric Power Group companies, Kyuden Mirai Energy Co. Inc., Nishinippon Plant Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd., and Kyuden Sangyo Co., Inc.

According to a statement March 29, SHI will supply a Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) boiler, turbine equipment, and other equipment to Nishinippon Plant Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd., the project’s engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor.

The plant is designed to be an extremely high-efficiency, dedicated biomass power plant that utilizes a reheating system and will be one of the largest such facilities with a CFB boiler in Japan. Wood pellets and palm kernel shells (PKS) will be used as its main fuel sources.

Construction is expected to begin in June 2019 with commercial operations estimated to begin in January 2022. The value of the order has not been disclosed.
