According to SHI, the 75 MWe output plant will use wood pellets as its main fuel source and will be located in Kanda-machi, Miyako-gun, Fukuoka Prefecture. Using SHI’s and its subsidiary Sumitomo SHI FW (SFW) circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler technology, the plant is designed to be a “high-efficiency, dedicated biomass combustion power plant” that utilizes a reheating system. The scheduled commercial operation of the plant is set for June 2021.

With over 490 references globally, SHI’s CFB boilers are capable of burning a wide range of fuels and demonstrate particular superiority in the biomass power generation field, commanding a high share of the market. This track record was a key factor in the securing of this order the value of which has not been disclosed.
