Czech automaker Škoda has deployed four Scania gas powered trucks at their main plant in Mladá Boleslav. These four vehicles are being used for transporting goods within the company site, while another will be used in the supply chain.
Škoda has also announced that it will operate longer 25-metre tractor-trailer combinations to further reduce carbon emissions. The Czech authorities have permitted selected companies to operate longer trucks on certain routes.
– As part of our overall social responsibility, we are focusing on developing environmentally friendly logistics solutions. The CNG-powered trucks are a further contribution to being a sustainable company, said Michael Oeljeklaus, Škoda Board Member for Production and Logistics.
Following a two-month trial period, four CNG-powered trucks are now being used in daily operations at the Škoda main production plant while another truck is used on the 120-km journey to and from Stráž nad Nisou.
The longer truck and trailer combinations will be used on selected routes for transporting goods to and from suppliers. These trucks can load 50 percent more than conventional transports. Škoda thereby reduces the number of weekly trips along the 292-km route between Mladá Boleslav and Rokycany from 53 to 35, which equates to 250 000 fewer kilometres per year. Lower transport costs are another benefit.
