Steinmüller Babcock Environment GmbH has revealed that it won the bidding process to build the boiler and furnace unit for E.ON Värme AB's new 100 MWth waste utilisation plant in Högbytorp north-west Stockholm, Sweden.

Germany-headed Steinmüller Babcock Environment GmbH, part of the Japanese company Nippon Steel & Sumikin Engineering Co., Ltd revealed March 8 that it won the bidding process to build the boiler and furnace unit for a new 100 MWth waste utilisation plant in north-west Stockholm, Sweden.
The client is E.ON Värme Sverige AB, the Swedish subsidiary of the German energy major E.ON. The single-line waste-to-energy (WtE) plant will treat municipal and industrial waste and later supply electricity and district heating to the region. Commissioning is planned for the end of 2019.
The WtE plant Högbytorp is part of a location initiative for the sustainable development of the urban district of Järfälla and Upplands Bro. The goal is to merge the three currently existing district heating networks of the surrounding municipalities, which are currently being supplied by small older heating plants, into a large network.
Using household and commercial the 100 MWth plant will be one of the largest thermal waste utilisation plants in Sweden. The contract for Steinmüller Babcock Environment encompasses the engineering, construction and delivery of the complete waste incineration unit, including the combustion grate, dry de-slagging, boilers and other components of the water-steam cycle, as well as the boiler house and the façades.
The combustion capacity of the plant is designed for 45 tonnes per hour. The forward moving grate furnace with 4 tracks and a width of more than 12 metres will be the largest to date for Steinmüller Babcock Environment. In addition, an innovative dry de-slagging concept will be used for the first time in Sweden, which allows a much higher recovery of resources from slag.
