In Japan, Toyo Engineering Corporation (TOYO), an international infrastructure and industrial engineering and construction company, has announced that it has been awarded a contract to construct a 50 MW biomass power plant. This plant will be built in Seiro-machi, Kita-Kambara-gun, Niigata for Niigata East Port Biomass Power GK.
As previously announced, TOYO will carry out the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract on a full turn-key basis that includes engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning services for a power generation unit.
The 50 MW dedicated biomass-fired power plant will use wood pellets and palm kernel shells (PKS) as fuel and is scheduled for completion in 2024.
According to TOYO, the Niigata power generation facility will be based on the reheat system whereby steam, after expansion through a high-pressure steam turbine, is sent back and reheated in the boiler, then resent to the low-pressure steam turbine for further expansion. This system realizes high power generation efficiency.
The award also marks TOYO’s 8th order for 50MW- and 75MW class biomass power plants. The company has positioned the infrastructure field centered on power generation plants as one of its core businesses, actively working on renewable energy power generation plants such as photovoltaic power plants and biomass power plants.
