In the United States (US), U.S. Gain, a leader in the development, procurement and distribution of renewable natural gas (RNG) for the transportation and energy markets, has recently announced the acquisition of another Wisconsin (WI) anaerobic digester – this one located at Deer Run Dairy, LLC in Kewaunee.

According to a statement, U.S. Gain is currently coordinating the installation of biogas clean-up and upgrading equipment at Deer Run Dairy, LLC to strip the impurities from the biogas, so it can be injected into the natural gas pipeline system.
Next, U.S. Gain will pursue RNG certification through both the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) so it can distribute through private natural gas fueling stations, own branded GAIN Clean Fuel network and other non-transportation outlets.
Although distinctly different than traditional fossil natural gas due to its source, RNG is interchangeable with fossil natural gas and can still be dispensed through natural gas fueling stations.
According to U.S. Gain, dairy-based RNG features some of the lowest carbon intensity scores because of its upstream emission savings, through the capture of methane that otherwise would have been released into the atmosphere.
Organizations continue to demand renewables as part of their sustainability strategies. Renewable natural gas provides companies across industries a clean and fast pathway to combat their scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, said Mike Koel, President of U.S. Gain.
