UNTHA launches MR series single-shaft shredders

With the new MR shredder series, Austria's UNTHA shredding technology GmbH (UNTHA) is expanding its product portfolio to include a particularly robust single-shaft universal shredder for the most demanding applications. First unveiled at IFAT 2026 in Munich, Germany, the MR1800C PRO has been specially developed for materials that often push conventional shredders to their limits – and according to the company "sets new standards in terms of uptime, ease of maintenance and process reliability."

Whether thick-walled plastic sprues, moulded parts, pipes, profiles, bales of film, or composite materials, the MR1800C PRO reliably and economically processes a wide range of materials that are difficult to shred without any pre-treatment.

Designed for intensive multi-shift operation, the shredder is aimed at plastics processors, recycling companies and industrial production facilities with the highest demands on performance and availability.

Direct drive power train

The development process focused consistently on durability and operational reliability. At the heart of the MR1800C PRO is the beltless UNTHA Power Drive, a direct drive system featuring an asynchronous motor, planetary gearbox, and maintenance-free safety clutch.

This drive concept eliminates typical wear sources, such as belts or tensioning systems, and reliably protects the cutting mechanism and drive train from damage caused by foreign matter.

The result is “exceptionally high” machine availability and reduced operating costs.

Flexible cutting system

The specially developed C-cutting system allows for optimal adaptation to a wide range of applications. Rotor blades that can be used four times, reusable cutting bars and bolted blade holders extend service life and significantly reduce wear costs.

Depending on the material, the number of blades and the cutting configuration can be individually adjusted.

The MR class processes, amongst other things, plastic sprues, IBC containers, film bales, textiles, composite materials, wood waste, as well as documents and cardboard packaging with definable particle sizes between 10 and 60 millimetres.

Easy maintenance is a productivity factor

UNTHA placed particular emphasis on a service-friendly design. A hydraulic service flap provides direct access to the cutting unit for blade changes, the removal of foreign matter and cleaning operations.

The hydraulically lowerable screen basket enables a quick screen change by a single operator, while the external, maintenance-free feed press with intelligent control ensures consistent material feed even with bulky or difficult-to-grip materials.

This, the company says, reduces maintenance time and sustainably increases productivity.

Digitalisation for maximum transparency

While the new MR1800C PRO was showcased indoors at IFAT 2026, the tracked UNTHA XR 3000RC mobile-e unit outdoor demonstration also attracted the crowds.

The MR class is also setting new standards in digitalisation. Machine data is available in real time via the MyUNTHA customer portal and the UNTHA GENIUS assistance system.

Maintenance work can be planned proactively, and spare parts can be quickly identified via an integrated 3D spare parts catalogue. Operators thus benefit from greater transparency, improved planning and reduced downtime.

Apart from robust construction, the MR series shredders have other practical features.

A “generously sized” feed hopper facilitates loading with telehandlers or material-handling equipment, whilst optional features such as rotor cooling, automatic central lubrication or a frequency converter allow the machine to be optimally adapted to individual customer requirements.

The intuitive 7-inch touchscreen display enables simple operation and ensures process reliability in day-to-day use.

Reliability as a brand promise

With the new MR series, UNTHA underlines its commitment to developing reliable, premium shredding solutions for industrial applications.

The combination of robust construction, ease of maintenance, intelligent digitalisation and cost-effective operation makes the MR1800C PRO a high-performance solution for companies that place the highest demands on their shredding technology.

This approach is aligned with UNTHA’s brand promise as “The reliable brand”, which has formed the basis of the company’s philosophy for decades.
