Austrian biomass combustion technology engineers, Urbas Energietechnik have announced that it has been contracted by Estonian kraft paper producer, Horizon Pulp & Paper Ltd, to supply a biomass combined heat and power (CHP) plant for Horizon. The installation will supply the Horizon kraft pulp- and paper mill in Kehra, Estonia, with 30 MWth at a steam temperature of 510°C and 70 bar of pressure. The extraction condensing turbine for process energy will deliver 4.3 MWe power. Urbas Energietechnik is responsible for the realisation of the entire CHP plant, which is scheduled to go online before the end of 2017. It is the first time that Urbas have been contracted to supply a CHP to the paper industry.
