Finland-headed forest industry and energy technology major Valmet Oyj has announced that it will deliver a Valmet DNA Distributed Control System to a bio-based process plant in Portugal. The order was placed by Valmet’s new Value Added Reseller (VAR) partner, Tecnilab AV Portugal S.A. (Tecnilab AV).

Tecnilab AV offers a range of technical services and solutions across various industries and areas, including wastewater and automation.

Valmet and Tecnilab AV have signed a Value Added Reseller (VAR) agreement that enables Tecnilab to offer Valmet’s distributed control system (DCS) solutions to process industries in Portugal, Spain, and Africa, excluding South Africa.

Valmet DNA will integrate all process automation needs under the same system, as our customer is expanding their production. The new system will help them meet higher production and quality targets. The operators will benefit from the Valmet DNAe User Interface, which is easy to operate even when there is more production, said Helder Pereira, Commercial Director at Tecnilab AV.

Replace an existing control system

With start-up at the end of 2025, the delivery in Portugal, the value of which has not been disclosed, will replace an existing control system as the end customer is expanding its production.

Valmet DNA Distributed Control System (DCS) ensures reliable bio-based production with consistent quality. The system will cover several process areas, namely: softening, drying, grinding, and side streams.

Each process area will have control redundancy and be independently controlled.

The system will include a web-based Valmet DNAe User Interface and will be operated from a centralized control room, with dedicated control rooms for each area.

The user interface makes the most meaningful information available to all process automation users according to their roles, regardless of their location.

This partnership is an important step forward in growing our presence within process industries. Tecnilab AV has already proven to be a reliable partner in wastewater measurements, and we are excited to deepen our collaboration as we expand our shared capabilities and reach more customers together, said Pedro Ribeiro da Silva, Valmet’s Country Manager, Automation Systems in Portugal.
