In Italy, Versalis S.p.A, a subsidiary of oil, gas, and energy major Eni S.p.A, has announced that it has closed on the acquisition of Mossi & Ghisolfi's Group’s ”green” activities including the assets and resources of the four companies Biochemtex, Beta Renewables, Ipb (Italian BioProducts) and Ipb Energia. As of November 1, 2018, all human resources, assets relating to the development areas, industrialization, the licensing of biochemical and biomass technologies and processes are part of Eni.
In September 2018, Versalis (Eni) announced that it had won the bidding process, ordered by the Court of Alessandria for Mossi & Ghisolfi’s Group’s ”green” activities including the assets and resources of the four companies Biochemtex, Beta Renewables, Ipb (Italian BioProducts) and Ipb Energia.
The Eni-owned chemical company has successfully completed the consultation procedure with unions and signed the sale and purchase agreement, the value of the latter has not been disclosed. As of November 1, 2018, human resources, assets relating to the development areas, industrialization, the licensing of biochemical and biomass technologies and processes are part of Eni via Versalis.
Restart production and relaunch activities
Versalis is now defining an action plan aimed at launching plant operations for bio-ethanol production at Crescentino, Vercelli, and the connected biomass-run power plant and research centre at Rivalta Scrivia, Alessandria.
The plan also includes the relaunch of the proprietary PROESA technology’s international licensing activities to produce second-generation bio-ethanol to meet the growing demand and sustainability criteria for biofuels, as required by global legislation.
Through this landmark acquisition, Versalis furthers its commitment to reinforcing its competitive position with regards to chemistry from renewables, merging its new activities into a dedicated business unit and developing an integrated technological platform in line with the company’s business strategy.
