The Kroger company’s K.B. Specialty Foods in Greensburg, Indiana employs 270 associates and has been a Zero Waste Facility since 2014. In that time, they have diverted more than 90 percent of waste produced from going to landfill each year.

Along with a new anaerobic digester (AD), K.B. Specialty Foods recently installed a 600 kW combined heat and power (CHP). This new system replaced a conventional wastewater treatment system and features a dome that captures the biogas and a CHP system that together, converts the food by-products into energy.

The “2g avus” 600 kW unit was manufactured, installed and commissioned by 2G Energy Inc., and is the second food waste installation that 2G has been part of in recent months.

CHP is an excellent solution for the food waste industry. We are glad to see growing interest in maximizing the benefits of what would otherwise be wasted materials to turn them into usable energy that benefits both our customer’s bottom line and the environment. We pride ourselves on being a solutions provider and this project helps us showcase the solutions we offer to customers like K.B. who value economic and environmental efficiency, said Paul Glenister, President and CEO of 2G Energy.
