In Denmark, biomass combustion technology and service provider Linka Group has announced that through its subsidiary Linka Service A/S, it has acquired the majority of the business activities of compatriot Verdo Energy Systems A/S, a subsidiary of municipal water and energy utility Verdo A/S.
Verdo announced in August 2026 that it would discontinue Verdo Energy Systems in an orderly fashion as part of its new strategy launched in April 2026 to focus on its core business as a municipal water, heat and power utility for the city of Randers.
Based in Aalborg, Verdo Energy Systems would be wound down in a controlled manner, honouring and completing existing service contracts and ongoing projects as planned, whilst Verdo sought to sell parts of the business.
Effective October 19, 2026, Linka has acquired Verdo Energy Systems’ service, automation and industrial operations, along with its portfolio of smaller projects, and will lease premises at Verdo’s current Aalborg headquarters.
This is a very good day for the employees of Verdo Energy Systems and for Verdo. When we announced in August that Verdo Energy Systems’ activities would no longer form part of Verdo’s core business, we also said that we would, of course, fulfil existing agreements and contracts and seek to sell parts of the business. We have now succeeded on both counts, but what pleases me most is that 50 skilled colleagues can continue their work and look forward to a new future at Linka Service, a subsidiary of Linka Group, said Jesper Vinter Barslund, CEO of Verdo.
Employees will continue to work there, and customers will continue to be served by the same people and expertise. The transaction also includes Verdo Energy System’s Polish office.
Linka is the right owner for Verdo Energy Systems. The two companies are closely aligned in terms of technological solutions, products and customers, and the synergies between Verdo Energy Systems and Linka are far greater than they would be with the Verdo we are now building, whose core business is primarily supplying water and heat and generating electricity. At Linka, the company will become part of a growth strategy rather than a peripheral activity. This is good for employees and customers, and for Verdo it marks another important step toward a focused Verdo, emphasised Jesper Vinter Barslund.
Natural fit for expansion
According to Linka Group, the acquisition, the value of which has not been disclosed, is a natural expansion of its business, which currently supplies biomass and energy plants to district heating utilities, industry and agriculture in Denmark and abroad, putting the Group in a stronger position to meet a growing demand for renewable energy solutions and technical services within these growth sectors.
The acquisition provides additional resources for delivering new projects and a stronger organisation to support existing energy plants, enabling the Group to support customers throughout the entire lifetime of their plants – from engineering and installation to commissioning, operation, service and maintenance.
We are strongly focused on being able to deliver energy-efficient solutions to heating customers in the future, and Verdo Energy Systems has been a very attractive acquisition candidate and a good match for us. There are many synergies between our existing products and the services, expertise, and products we are now acquiring. At the same time, as owners, we have an ambitious growth strategy for Linka Group, aiming to grow both in Denmark and internationally, and the acquisition fits perfectly into that plan, said Christoffer Lassen, Chairman of Linka.
With the acquisition of Verdo Energy Systems, Linka Group grows from approximately 100 to approximately 150 employees across its headquarters in Lem, its Swedish sites, and now offices in Aalborg and Poland.
We very much look forward to welcoming our new colleagues, and we are confident that we have a great future together in Linka Group. The Aalborg site is also a significant gain for us: it gives us a wider geographical presence in Denmark and a strong foothold in a university city, making it easier to recruit the technical expertise we will need in the future. The Polish office also gives us an important springboard into one of our growth markets, said Thomas Gaardbo, CEO of Linka.
