Austria-headed International technology group Andritz AG has announced that it has been selected received by Danish municipal energy provider Helsingør Kraftvarmeværk A/S to deliver a biomass boiler island for its combined heat and power (CHP) plant. The project will be the first biomass boiler supplied to a customer in Denmark for Andritz.
With the new boiler, natural gas will be replaced by biomass in energy production. The plant will supply heat and power to the Helsingør community in the northern part of Sjælland island, Denmark. Start-up of the boiler, the value of which has not been disclosed, is scheduled for the end of 2018.
The scope of supply includes the boiler island – from fuel silos to boiler outlet – based on the company’s “well-proven” bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) design, which combines high efficiency with excellent environmental performance. The boiler will burn wood-based biomass such as forest residues, bark, sawdust, and woodchips and generate 75 tonnes-per-hour of steam to power an existing turbine.
