In Japan, power wholesaler and retailer eREX Co., Ltd has announced that it has reached the financial close of the Okinawa Uruma New Energy KK biomass power plant project.
According to a statement, a consortium with Kyuden Mirai Energy Corporation, Toyo Kanetsu Corporation, Okinawa Gas Corporation, Kyudenko Corporation, Tokyo Gas Engineering Solutions Co and local companies based in Okinawa-ken made investments in “Okinawa Uruma New Energy KK” which is a company established by eREX in July 2017.
With an electrical output of 49 MWe, the planned biomass power plant will be the largest of its kind in Okinawa-ken.
Construction is expected to begin in June 2019, and the plant is scheduled to begin commercial operations in July 2021.
The biopower plant will use woody biomass and palm kernel shells (PKS) as fuel. It will be jointly operated by eREX, Kyuden Mirai Energy, Tokyo Gas Engineering Solutions, and Toyo Kanetsu while Kyudenko will be in charge of the electrical installation work at the power plant.
