Andusia Holdings Ltd (Andusia), the UK’s largest independent exporter of refuse-derived fuels (RDF) has announced that it has signed what it believes to be, the largest refuse-derived fuel (RDF) contract the waste industry has ever seen, with Germany’s leading energy from waste (EfW) group, EEW Energy from Waste GmbH.
The milestone contract will see Andusia supply 1 million tonnes of RDF over a 5-year period.
The new deal comes due to the rising demand for green electricity across Europe; largely associated with the global issue of energy security, derived from the Russian energy crisis.
The agreement builds upon an existing contract with EEW Delfzijl in the Netherlands.
EEW is pleased to have signed this long-term, high-volume contract with Andusia. We are confident that we can build on our successful 6-year relationship and work together to continue not only diverting waste from UK landfill but generating electricity and heat for households and businesses across Germany, commented Oliver Karg, Head of International Sales at EEW.
The 200 000 tonnes per annum contract will supply RDF to six of EEW’s other facilities across Germany – Helmstedt, Knapsack, Stapelfeld, Premnitz, Schwedt, and Neunkirchen – from January 2023.
Methane emissions are a particular focus of attention in terms of climate protection because the greenhouse gas effect of methane is 25 times higher than that of carbon dioxide. Across Europe, more than 170 million tonnes of CO2 could be saved if no more residual waste were landfilled throughout the EU, over and above the targets already adopted. Landfills rank third worldwide among methane emitters, Oliver Karg said.
EEW is Germany’s leading company in generating environmentally friendly energy from waste, with 17 state-of-the-art plants.
The group processes approximately 5 million tonnes of waste per annum with the objective to reduce, if not eliminating, landfill across Europe.
We are delighted to end the year on such a high. Andusia and EEW have enjoyed a prosperous business relationship since 2016 and we welcome the opportunity to continue our joint efforts in this long-term deal, across six of their plants, said Steve Burton, Founder, and Director of Andusia.
Andusia offers a competitive, fully collected service of waste, both baled and loose, in curtain siders, containers, or walking floors.
This landmark deal not only goes to strengthen our standing as the UK’s largest independent waste exporter but will help us realize a record-breaking year for the business come to the end of the financial year, ended Steve Burton.
