In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Vopak Horizon Fujairah Ltd has announced that it has successfully completed the company’s first ISCC Certified biofuel bunkering supply operations, in support of the country’s Net Zero by 2050 strategy.
Designed to state of-the-art specifications, complying with the most stringent safety and environmental standards, Vopak Horizon Fujairah Ltd (VHFL) is a world-class deepwater storage terminal with about 2.65 million m3 capacity, capable of handling Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs).
According to a statement, this bio-bunkering marks a significant milestone in advancing the maritime industry’s decarbonisation journey by fostering more sustainable fuel bunkering supply chain solutions.
This operation involved the supply of B24 bunker fuel, a blend of 24 percent of Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) with Very Low Sulfur Fuel Oil (VLSFO).
Biofuels contain less sulfur than traditional high-sulfur fuels, thus reducing sulfur oxide (SOx) emissions from ships.
This operation represents a significant step in the decarbonisation of the supply chain. Our heartfelt thanks to the strong cooperation with all our valued partners, said Law Say Huat, General Manager of Vopak Horizon Fujairah.
Currently, Vopak has 32 terminals within its global network that are International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) certified to store sustainable products like sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and other biofuels and feedstocks.
