In the UK, Swiss-based green-tech major Kanadevia Inova AG (Kanadevia), has announced that it has completed construction and commissioning work on the Rivenhall Integrated Waste Management Facility (IWMF) near Kelvedon in Essex.

Developed by Indaver Rivenhall Ltd and designed and built by Kanadevia Inova, the new Rivenhall IWMF will begin to deliver significant environmental and energy benefits for the county of Essex and neighbouring regions.

Construction works started in October 2022 on the waste-to-energy (WtE) facility, with the Provisional Acceptance Certificate issued on April 18, 2026, confirming that all construction and commissioning activities have been completed.

Kanadevia Inova will also continue to provide support to Indaver under a Long-Term Service Agreement, previously agreed upon in June 2025.

Located in a former quarry, the modern two-line Rivenhall IWMF will process up to 595,000 tonnes of non-recyclable (residual) municipal and commercial waste annually, and generate 55 MW of electricity.

Sustainable management of Essex’s non-recyclable waste

Importantly, the IWMF is the first WtE facility to be built and operated in Essex, which will now treat residual waste as a valuable resource.

The Rivenhall facility will not only divert these non-recyclable residues from landfill – the least sustainable form of waste management – but the plant will also reduce the carbon footprint of non-recyclable waste by negating the need to transport it long distances for out-of-county treatment or overseas export.

We’re immensely proud to successfully design, build and commission the Rivenhall Integrated Waste Management Facility for our valued clients at Indaver. I would like to thank the many Kanadevia Inova colleagues and contractors for their long-term commitment to bringing the UK’s newest waste to energy infrastructure successfully and safely online. This modern facility continues the UK’s journey to delivering environmentally sustainable waste management solutions while also generating significant volumes of baseload energy, said Daniel Dreier, EVP Waste to X & Renewable Gas Plants,

Kristien Schoonjans, Group Engineering Director at Indaver, said: “The Rivenhall handover reflects the effective collaboration between the Indaver project team and Kanadevia Inova, with the fully commissioned plant now ready for Indaver’s operations team.”
