In the United States (US), Ameresco, Inc., a leading energy infrastructure company, has announced the groundbreaking of a renewable natural gas (RNG) facility being developed by Ameresco through its subsidiary Neogenyx Fuels at the Adams Land & Cattle LLC feedlot in Broken Bow, Nebraska (NE).
The Neogenyx Fuels-owned facility is designed to capture manure from the feedlot and convert it into renewable natural gas through eight anaerobic digesters capable of generating more than 4,400 SCFM of biogas.
Last week’s groundbreaking demonstrated what’s possible when agriculture, innovation, and energy infrastructure come together. The Adams Land & Cattle project is not only transformational for the operation and the broader agricultural sector, but it also provides a blueprint for how American agriculture can play a larger role in the global energy economy, said Leila Dillon, SVP and Chief Marketing Officer at Ameresco.
Once upgraded to pipeline-quality RNG, the facility is expected to produce approximately 1.2 million MMBtu annually for transportation and other energy applications.
The Adams Land & Cattle RNG facility demonstrates how American agriculture can play an important role in the future of renewable fuels. By converting livestock waste into renewable natural gas with the potential to support bioLNG production for global maritime markets, this project connects Nebraska to the growing demand for lower-carbon energy solutions across the world while driving private investment, job creation, and local economic growth, said Michael Bakas, CEO of Neogenyx Fuels.
Process byproducts will be reused onsite by Adams Land & Cattle as livestock bedding and agricultural fertilizer.
The project is also expected to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by approximately 63,700 tonnes annually.
