Norway-headed Nord Gas Solutions, a Mutares SE & Co. KGaA portfolio company, has announced that it has secured a contract for a 35-tonne-per-day biomethane liquefaction plant in Poland, marking a significant milestone in the country's developing biomethane sector.
The project is expected to become Poland’s first bioLNG production plant and represents an important step in the development of renewable gas infrastructure in the region.
Being developed as a brownfield retrofit conversion project, the undisclosed plant will utilize existing biogas production infrastructure to enable renewable bioLNG production.
The facility will convert biogas into bioLNG using Nord Gas Solutions’ Puregas CA75 LBG and Puregas MR35 technologies.
With project execution commencing immediately, the development demonstrates how existing biogas assets can be upgraded to support the production of renewable fuels.
The plant will process, upgrade, and liquefy manure-based biogas into low-carbon-intensity bioLNG, contributing to reduced emissions in the transport sector while creating additional value from agricultural residues.
Considerable potential in Poland
Poland has considerable potential for biomethane (aka renewable natural gas – RNG) production, particularly within its agricultural sector.
While the country’s biomethane market remains at an early stage of development, demand for renewable fuels continues to grow across Europe.
BioLNG offers a pathway for utilizing RNG in transport applications while reducing reliance on gas grid injection infrastructure, which may be limited in certain locations.
A significant share of the bioLNG produced by the facility is expected to be supplied to the transport market, where demand for low-carbon fuels continues to increase.
