Albioma expands into the US with pellet plant acquisition

France-headed renewable energy major Albioma Group has announced the acquisition of an 80 percent stake in Archer Forest Products Inc., a wood pellet production facility located in Nahunta, Georgia, United States, owned by Fram Renewable Fuels Inc., a recognised pioneer in the sector, which will retain a 20 percent minority interest.

The Archer facility has an annual production capacity of approximately 180,000 tonnes of wood pellets and employs 39 people on site.

Located close to the Port of Brunswick, it benefits from logistics well suited to exporting pellets to Albioma’s assets, particularly in the French Caribbean.

The Archer facility processes wood residues sourced from local forest industries. The pellets are Sustainable Biomass Program (SBP) certified, a certification recognised across Europe as demonstrating compliance with biomass sustainability requirements.

Upstream integration strategy

According to the company, the acquisition of Archer Forest Products builds on Albioma’s upstream integration strategy.

Like acquisitions previously completed in Canada and Australia, this transaction helps diversify the Group’s sourcing regions and further strengthens the resilience of its supply chain.

It also marks Albioma’s entry into a new strategic market at the heart of a major forestry region with a well-established and sustainable biomass sector.

The Archer Forest Products acquisition provides the Group with its first industrial footprint in the United States.
