Andusia Holdings Ltd (Andusia), the UK’s largest independent exporter of refuse-derived fuels (RDF) has recently announced that it has been confirmed as the sole supplier of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) to a new Energy-from-Waste (EfW) plant currently under construction in Newport, South Wales. Construction of the Alexandra Docks plant is expected to begin early this year and is scheduled for completion in early 2022.
According to a statement, Andusia will be supplying a minimum of 220 000 tonnes of RDF per annum to the Newport, South Wales plant under a 25-year contract. Once operational, the EfW facility will provide enough energy to the grid to power 50 000 homes annually.
The announcement comes at an exciting time for Andusia, with 2020 looking to be another busy year. Clinitek’s hazardous waste plant in Malvern, for which Andusia is sole supplier, will be fully operational in the next couple of months, an array of new export supply contracts commence and the Andusia team has expanded once more.
We are delighted to have signed such an extensive sole waste supplier contract in the UK. Andusia is committed to supporting new UK infrastructure and will continue to work with both investors and developers to bridge the gap between waste suppliers and plants, commented Mark Terrell, Director of Andusia.
Fuel supply risk can lead developers to struggle to get the third-party financing they need to build a new plant. As an experienced aggregator, Andusia is able to pull waste from a number of different sources, spreading the risk of supply and guaranteeing the best value. Enabling developers to obtain the 10-year plus fixed-price supply contract that is often required to gain investment.
