In Sweden, APM Terminals Gothenburg, the largest container port in the Nordics and part of the Netherlands-headed APM Terminals network has commissioned three new renewable diesel-powered straddle trucks to meet an anticipated increase in demand for container handling at the terminal.
According to the company, the need for smart and reliable logistics solutions has been greater than ever in 2021. APM Terminals Gothenburg is now kicking off in 2022 to meet the rising demand.
There is great interest in logistics solutions via the Port of Gothenburg. Therefore, we continue our investment in Gothenburg to meet the Swedish market’s need for reliable and flexible container shipping to and from the world market, said Dennis Olesen, CEO of APM Terminals Nordic.
Railway records, new commuters, and 24-hour service
In 2021, APM Terminals Gothenburg handled more railway volume than ever before, thus exceeding the latest volume record from 2014. The forecast for 2022 is for even more handled container volumes by rail.
Already on February 1, 2022, APM Terminals and the freight hub Gothenburg will welcome a total of six new rail commuters from Insjön, Piteå, and Falköping.
To meet the steadily rising demand for flexible railway solutions, we are now switching to round-the-clock service. In this way, our customers can run two revolutions per day, one during the day and one during the night, while we can receive even more extra trains when needed, said Homam Mansour, Rail Planner at APM Terminals Gothenburg.
Three new straddle trucks
To improve capacity in all flows, APM Terminals has invested in three more new, state-of-the-art and renewable diesel-powered straddle trucks, which were commissioned on January 3, 2022.
The terminal has now a total of 40 trucks with the capacity to lift two 20-foot containers simultaneously.
