Preem acquires tank farm in the Port of Norrköping

Sweden's largest oil refiner and transportation fuels producer, Preem AB has announced that it has acquired a 120 000 m3 liquid storage depot in the Port of Norrköping. The tank farm will be used for large-scale intermediate storage of renewable raw materials before they are taken to Preem's refineries in Gothenburg and Lysekil to be refined into renewable fuels.

Preem AB has acquired a 120,000 m3 liquid storage depot from Tekniska Verken i Linköping AB located in the Pampus Terminal at the Port of Norrköping (photo courtesy Port of Norrköping).

Preem has acquired the tank farm from compatriot municipal energy company energy Tekniska Verken i Linköping AB, and the deal is part of Preem’s business strategy restructuring.

With Preem’s ambition to significantly increase the production of renewable fuels, the need for renewable raw materials is also increasing. The depot in Norrköping will be a natural hub for collecting and intermediate storage of these raw materials before they can be transported to our two refineries, to be processed into renewable fuels, said Andreas Hellborg, Head of Depot Operations at Preem.

The depot is ideally located between two of Preem’s already existing tank farms in Pampus Terminal at the Port of Norrköping and is expected to be fully operational by the summer of 2022.

The depot will store renewable crude diesel supplied by Preem’s joint-venture SunPine AB in Piteå, as well as other sustainable raw materials in the form of oils and fats.
