In Sweden, construction company ByggPartner, part of ByggPartnerGruppen, has announced that it has been selected as the construction contractor by Arctic Paper Grycksbo AB, part of Poland-headed paper major Arctic Paper S.A. for its biomass-boiler and pellet plant project "BIO-25".

In August 2023, Arctic Paper announced that it was investing SEK 285 million (≈ EUR 24.3 million) in the expansion and upgrade of its bioenergy installation at its Arctic Paper Grycksbo mill located outside Falun.

The BIO-25 investment is part of the company’s plan to achieve climate-neutral production while simultaneously creating business opportunities in green energy.

The mill’s biomass boiler will be fired with sawdust and woodchips after the conversion.

High energy efficiency

In addition to electricity and steam, BIO-25 includes a 50,000 tonnes per annum-capacity wood pellet plant that will use residuals from regional sawmills.

In August 2024, Estonia-headed wood processing technology provider AS Hekotek announced that it had been selected to design and supply the pellet plant including a belt-dryer that will utilize low-temperature surplus heat from the paper machines, two CPM Twin-Track pellets presses as well as automatic pellets-storage and outloading systems.

The wet-material handling- and storage systems in the BIO-25 project will be supplied by Finland-headed material handling technology supplier BMH Technology Oy.

The BMH Technology-Hekotek setup is a strong combination that guarantees the success of the BIO-25 Project, commented Markus Westman, Project Manager of Arctic Paper Grycksbo in August 2024.

Construction start

ByggPartner has begun the production phase in a collaboration project with Arctic Paper regarding the conversion and expansion of the mill in Grycksbo.

The project for ByggPartner is expected to last until September 2025, while machinery and equipment installations will continue until the end of the year.

The target is to have the plant operational in December 2025.

We are proud to help Arctic Paper with its ambitious and important transition. The project creates great benefits for the mill and shows the way for other industries that need to change their energy model, said Johan Karlsson, VP of ByggPartner.

The order value for ByggPartner is approximately SEK 90 million (≈ EUR 7.8 million).
