E.ON Denmark and Sønderjysk Biogas Invest (SBI) have officially opened Sønderjysk Biogas, Denmark’s largest biogas plant. Located in southern Jutland, the plant will convert about 540 000 tonnes per annum of livestock manure, straw and other organic residues into biomethane for grid injection.
E.ON Denmark A/S, the Danish subsidiary of Germany-headed energy major E.ON and Sønderjysk Biogas Invest A/S (SBI), an investor and supplier association have officially opened the country’s largest biogas plant, Sønderjysk Biogas. Located in southern Jutland, the EUR 33 million Sønderjysk Biogas project is a 50:50 joint venture (JV) between E.ON and SBI.
On an annual basis the plant will convert around 540 000 tonnes of livestock manure, supplied by members of SBI, along with straw and other organic residues into 21 million Nm3 cubic of biomethane that will be injected into the gas grid. Over 75 percent of the manure will be supplied from neighbouring farms located within an average radius of about 18 kilometers around the plant.
