Accelerate Green is a new accelerator program sponsored by the Irish semi-state peat resource and power utility company Bord na Móna (BnM) and dedicated to supporting companies that are developing products and services based on green innovation.
A first-round Accelerate Green has been announced by BnM and will help the eight business leaders identify clear pathways to scaling their novel solutions, delivering measurable impact and supporting economic development.
Facilitate rapid expansion
Operating in both the Irish waste-to-energy (WtE), green gas, and sustainable agriculture markets, Jones Celtic Bioenergy Ltd (JCBE) is one of the selected companies and is seen as a huge boost by JCBE.
JCBE is very pleased to have been chosen to enter this unique accelerator programme. We believe that our selection provides us with the recognition that the key innovations that we are bringing to the Irish and indeed the global circular economy are worthy of support to facilitate rapid expansion. We hope that the programme will expose us to the expertise needed to fill out some of the gaps in our current strategy through interaction with the organisers, sponsors, fellow participants and invited speakers, said Dr Andrew Walsh, Managing Director, JCBE.
According to JCBE, its proprietary thermo-pressure hydrolysis (TPH) technology “revolutionizes” the management of municipal and other biogenic wastes to generate low cost and sustainable renewable natural gas (RNG) while harvesting the residual organics for carbon sequestration.
The technology extracts the biomethane potential from municipal organic waste (MOW) while preserving the residual carbon for soil sequestration.
In the sustainable agricultural sector, JCBE is focusing on assisting the emerging fermentation or alternative protein sector through the configuration of its technology to provide these fermentation systems with sustainable nutrients and renewable energy.
Dr Andrew Walsh and his team at JCBE have been leading their industry in revolutionising the management of municipal and other biogenic wastes. As a climate solutions company Bord na Móna is determined to help other companies, like Jones Celtic Bioenergy Ltd, to deliver novel solutions to enable a low-carbon economy while delivering sustainable jobs. Accelerate Green is an excellent opportunity for our eight selected companies to engage with key industry partners and gain potential financial investment, said Tom Donnellan, Chief Executive, Bord na Móna.
Mentoring and R&D support
JCBE will be joined on the Accelerate Green programme by EpiSensor, CameraMatics, Positive Carbon, Real Leaf Farm, Automsoft, Go Eve and Borrisoleigh Bottling.
Over the course of the programme, the eight companies will be brought through a series of deep learning and mentoring sessions and will engage with a broad array of speakers from enterprise and energy agencies, Irish corporates, research networks, investors, and successful business leaders.
The programme will be delivered in person at a former Bord na Móna site in Boora, Co. Offaly, they will also be able to avail of up to EUR 20 000 of research funding with Irish university researchers.
Following the completion of the programme, the companies will participate in a leading industry conference, “Ireland Sustainable Future”, slated to take place in June 2022, to coincide with the programme finish date.
It is significant to note that as a group, the eight participating companies, currently already employ over 120 people, and have raised over EUR 20 million in funding. This sharpens the programme’s focus, to support these companies in becoming the next leaders in their sectors, and to inspire and signpost other start-ups and scaleups across Ireland towards success, Alan Costello, Resolve Partners said emphasising that the commercial scalability is at the heart of Accelerate Green.
