Sweden-based biomass gasification technology developers Cortus Energy AB has disclosed that it has received an order from the Lithuanian company UAB Lignineko to test two different types of fuels for bio-SNG (synthetic natural gas) with WoodRoll biomass gasification technology. The order relates to the first step in the Cortus fuel test programme in lab scale. Positive fuel tests are a prerequisite for an upcoming SNG project in Lithuania.
Lignineko produces lignin-based biomass fuels for district heating and the process industry. The company has access to 630 000 m3 of lignin in Lithuania and is investigating new uses for the lignin as well as other recycled wood materials such as chipboard, construction and demolition (C&D) wood.
According to a statement, Cortus has received an order worth SEK 50 000 (≈ EUR 4 700) to test two different types of fuels for bio-SNG with WoodRoll gasification. The order relates to the first step in Cortus fuel test programme in lab scale. Positive fuel tests are a prerequisite for an upcoming SNG project in Kedainiai, Lithuania.
Synthetic natural gas (SNG), or biomethane, is Cortus says a sector with “great potential” for WoodRoll. Natural gas is a global energy type for primarily heating, but increasingly also for electricity production. The infrastructure for natural gas is well developed in large parts of the world.
In recent years, an awareness, primarily within the EU, of increasing the proportion of renewable in the natural gas network has been noted and financial support programs are on the way.
