In Sweden, energy companies E.ON Sweden AB and Stockholm Exergi AB have announced that they have jointly become the new majority owners of a greater Stockholm district heating company, Täby Miljövärme AB.
In 2019, Täby municipality signed a Letter of Intent with E.ON and Stockholm Exergi to investigate the possibilities of jointly finding a future-proof and sustainable heat supply in the municipality.
To meet future needs in the municipality, new business solutions are needed for a safe and secure district heating supply.
The study has resulted in E.ON and Stockholm Exergi acquiring a 47.5 percent stake each in municipality-owned Täby Miljövärme AB and Täby municipality retaining 5 percent of the shares.
The collaboration we now have with E.ON and Stockholm Exergi means that we work together for the good of Täby residents. This is a good solution that provides a long-term district heating supply in the municipality, said Katarina Kämpe, Municipal Director in Täby municipality.
The new ownership structure can into effect on March 1, 2023.
Finally, we have a long-term solution for district heating in place in Täby. With this jointly owned company, we create an efficient and stable district heating supply for all district heating customers in Täby, said Marc Hoffmann, CEO of E.ON Sweden.
District heating is a reliable and convenient solution for heating. It is the most common form of heating in Sweden and accounts for just over half of all heating.
In Täby, district heating is supplied to apartment blocks, office blocks, and industrial properties.
The plan is to connect the two existing district heating networks in the municipality and create a significantly increased effect through cooperation in existing production facilities.
Now we are creating the conditions to develop district heating in Täby. By building district heating networks in the municipality and increasing cooperation in production, we want to make district heating even safer and more attractive for Täby Miljövärme’s customers, said Anders Egelrud, CEO of Stockholm Exergi.
