Estonia-headed pellet major Graanul Invest has announced that it has completed its Imavere biomass-fired combined heat and power plant (CHP) and pellet factory extension project in Imavere, Estonia. Originally commissioned in 2005, the 105 000 tonne per annum plant was the first pellet plant for Graanul Invest.

In 2015, Austrian boiler manufacturers URBAS Maschinenfabrik Ges.m.b.H were contracted to deliver the CHP to Imavere and in the latter half of 2016, the first power to the grid was supplied. The plant, which consists of two grate type boilers uses bark and forest chips as fuel. The heat production capacity is 27 MW and the electrical capacity is 10 MW.e

The CHP at Imavere is the fifth biomass-fired installation for Graanul Invest that plan to have CHP’s next to all existing pellet mills.
